Cynthia Walston, FAIA, LEED AP, Principal, CannonDesign, is the Office Market Leader of the Science + Technology practice group at CannonDesign, Houston office. Cynthia is nationally known for transforming research and science education environments. Her deep understanding of healthcare, biomedical research and education architecture makes her an expert in translational health science buildings designed to bring clinical care, research and education together to accelerate the process of turning research discoveries into patient therapies.
Her recent projects include a new STEM Building for University of Houston Clear Lake, a laboratory and office building for Texas Biomedical Research Institute in San Antonio, and Rice University’s BioScience Research Collaborative in Houston. Her work has garnered national, regional and local accolades including esteemed recognition from Laboratory Design and R&D Magazine’s Lab of the Year competition for her innovation at Texas Children’s Hospital Feigin Center. Cynthia has served on NIH grant review committees, as well as seven Lab of the Year juries for R&D Magazine. She is a founding member of the American College of Healthcare Architects and speaks regularly at national conferences on the subject of laboratory design and research equipment planning.
