What does it mean to be “the best?” More and more, clients are aiming for very specific targets—for universities, being ranked in the Top Ten. For research institutes, receiving the most money from grants. And for corporations, being recognized as “the best place to work.”
As designers, how can we create places that help achieve these goals? I’ll give you a hint: it’s not all in the labs and it’s not all in the money. We need to consider what it takes to create a buzz (“this is not your father’s lab”); to make a place memorable; to connect enthusiastic, smart, focused people; to spark curiosity, imagination and inspiration.
In this keynote, we’ll discuss the attributes of a platform that attracts the right people who generate the grant funding, which in turn helps an institution rise to the top. And we’ll explore how good design can help institutions harness these attributes to achieve unprecedented success.
