For years, "collaboration" has been a buzz word for new lab building design. But how do we update existing science buildings to improve collaboration? This session will focus on three topics:
1. Designing labs for collaboration.
2. The millennial generation’s workstyle and how it influenced the design of Rice University’s New Emerging Science and Technology Center (NEST), a 15,000 sf renovation that changed the research culture by bringing together four different engineering departments into one space.
3. Student needs for collaboration in the research environment: discoveries and lessons learned from a post occupancy student survey review.
